This summer, the city residents “banish the ghosts of old electronics”
Environ Association in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Forests announced the ongoing campaign "Banish the ghosts of old electronics" in Bucharest. The campaign will run from May 25 in the all 6 districts of the capital and seeks separate collection and recycling of electrical and electronic waste equipment (WEEE). The project is trying to implement, at the entire population level, the functional awareness program and an efficient collection of electrical and electronic waste equipment. During the event launch which will take place at the collection center, EcoRampa, The Minister of Environment, Mr. Laszlo Borbely, will give an open lesson on collection and recycling issues in the front of 60 students of School No. 3 in Pipera.
Project started nationwide in February 2011 and it aims at the selective collection and recycling of electrical and electronic waste at national level in accordance with the provisions of Directive 1037/2010. National expansion of the campaign follows the results achieved after the completion of the pilot program in District 1 of Bucharest in November 2010, which resulted in the collection of 8 tons of electronic waste and the information of over 100 tenants associations and 100 institutions and companies. In February 2011, the campaign started nationally in Mures county, where there were collected over 9 tons of electronic waste in the 4 stages of the campaign.
The collection campaign will run in all 6 sectors of Bucharest from May 25 to July 25 and addresses equally to tenants associations, government institutions, private companies and citizens who can apply the campaign via www.environ.ro and www.alungafantomele.ro websites. Here, those interested will be able to enter their company or the association of tenants in the competition and learn more about the stages of the campaign in each district of the country. Besides Romprest Company SA, the traditional partner of the campaign, there were enrolled in fighting old ghosts of electronics the companies Rosal Group SA and Urban SA. We believe that only together we can “Banish the ghosts of old electronics" in the capital, and we strongly believe that citizens of Bucharest will demonstrate, together with institutions, companies and tenants associations involved in the campaign, that the city of Bucharest will collect a large amount of WEEE", said Adriana Calcan, Marketing & Communication Manager of Romprest.
"Such awareness campaigns are very useful for both the authorities and the citizens concerning the selective waste collection and recycling of electrical and electronic waste appliances. The Ministry of Environment and Forests supports such projects that have an important role in educating the public about the actions that can be taken to protect the environment. I hope the campaign results should be very good, in the capital, and in time, the project to reach every county”, said the Minister Laszlo Borbely.
Information dissemination will enjoy the support of a team of volunteers who will go to private companies, public institutions and lodgers associations in each sector of the capital to promote the campaign to a large and selective collection of electrical waste equipment. Also, throughout the course of the campaign, those interested will have the telephone number 021.9223 for information and scheduling the electrical and electronic waste equipment takeover.

We hope that at the end of the campaign we may have to give more prizes than we predicted ", says Andrei Orban, President of Environ, the initiator of the campaign.
