It’s Your World? Clean! "Environmental education campaign initiated by Prais Foundation, Romprest Service Company and Sector 1 of Bucharest-
Bucharest, March 29, 2011. PRAIS Foundation, in institutional partnership with the School Inspectorate of Bucharest, Sector 1 of Bucharest and Romprest - lead partner, launched the third edition of the extracurricular educational program "It’s Your World? Clean! ". The program addresses a number of 2166 students of class IV in 38 schools in Bucharest - Sector 1. The main objective of the initiative is to educate the young generation to be civic responsible for the selective collection of recyclable waste, thereby directly contributing to environmental protection. The implementation of the project will last for 5 months.
"It’s Your World? Clean! " is the educational component of the national movement of planting “Millions of People, Millions of Trees” program, officially recognized by UNEP. The first two editions have involved over 6500 students, 250 teachers from 100 schools in Bucharest, Brasov, Medgidia, Arad, Timisoara and 20,000 family members of the students. 50 open lessons were held; students have created over 1,500 decorative objects from recycled materials, of which 300 were awarded; 260 essays on environmental issues were entered directly on www.lumeatacurata.ro site. Only in Bucharest there were collected from students’ consumption in schools: 605.32 cubic meters of paper, 216.57 cubic meters of plastic", said Silvia Bucur, the President of PRAIS Foundation.
This year students receive a free educational book- "It’s Your World? Clean! "- and information materials on the topic for 6,000 parents and relatives of the students. The 38 schools in District 1 are provided by Romprest with selective collection bins for paper and plastic and the recyclable waste collected by students will be measured monthly. The collection results in schools will be recorded on the communication platform of the program, on www.lumeatacurata.ro site that automatically generates the top of the most active schools. The open lessons have special guests invited, personalities from various fields, known by children, having in common "the involvement in activities aimed at protecting the environment ", as is the case of Zoltan from Sistem Band. At the same time students are enrolled in two competitions: thematic essays and creating decorative objects made of recycled materials. The exhibitions from schools allow the jury to select the best works, and the winners are awarded in June 2011 in a large festivity in which the students receive sporting equipment and the schools get a PC, a photocopier and many other office automation equipment provided by Romprest.
"Educating the young generation to be civic responsible towards the environment in the communities of which it belongs is a priority for us. Only then we can breathe good air and we can enjoy nature in the coming decades", said Andrew Chiliman, the Mayor of District 1.
Since its launch in 2009, over 1200 students from Arad, Brasov, Timis Tulcea had access to the extensive extracurricular educational program, which is supported regionally by companies Smihtfield Romania and Lafarge Romania, as partners of the PRAIS Foundation.
„YWC (It’s Your World? Clean!) is at the second edition in District 1 of Bucharest, after the first one which was a great success", said Adriana Calcan, Marketing and Communication Manager at Romprest, stating that “this year we will bring news, from surprises that we offer to children enrolled in the campaign, until involving them in activities with a constructive role in the development of eco-civic-educational spirit”.
