Romprest attended the Awards Gala of the campaign “Baterel and the Non-E World”

The Awards Gala of the campaign „Baterel Battery and the Non-E World" was held in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, and other public figures and state administration authorities. The event was held in the theater of the International School of Bucharest (Şos. Gării Căţelu, No. 1R) and it marked the end of the national awareness and selective collection campaign carried out by Environ Association during the school year 2011-2012.

The campaign was implemented in schools and high schools in Romania and is based on a pilot project of collection and information launched by Environ Association in 2011. As in the first edition, “Baterel and the Non-E World” took place under the patronage of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the National Environmental Guard, in partnership with SNRB, Romprest Company SA, Globex and Remat Holding.

By extending this campaign nationally Environ Association sought engagement of students and teachers in a positive competition on the selective collection based on student essay contests and projects competitions between schools. The objectives of this campaign were both the young segment awareness on the necessity of selective collection of electronic waste equipment and batteries, and the effective collection of these waste streams.
Thus, the first prize winners at the essay contest, conducted in 3 age categories are: Andreas Niţu (grades I-IV), Daniela Sonntag (grade V-VIII) and Traian Alexandru Vasile N. (grade IX -XII). At the collection contest projects implemented at school level, the winning institution was the High School of Natural Sciences " Grigore Antipa” in Botosani, and at the collection of WEEE and batteries contest won the Technical College" Maria Băiulescu", Brasov.

The awards were handed over by the Minister of Environment and Forests - Mrs. Rovana Plumb, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Education - Mr. Stelian Fedorca, representatives of the Environmental Guard and of Romprest Company. They also offered a number of special prizes to participants who surprised the judges with various initiatives; the prizes were presented by Calin Goia, the lead singer of Voltage band and by Chef Cătălin Scărlătescu.

The Awards Gala was attended by over 200 students and teachers from the winning schools of the campaign, parents and representatives of the media. Environ Association prizes consisted of video projectors, laptops, cameras, MP3 players and cameras. Also, the teachers who participated in the campaign, coordinators of “Baterel and the Non-E World” were rewarded with honorary degrees at the Awards Gala for the involvement and consistency they showed in these 8 months of cooperation.

"At the end of a successful campaign, we can say that we managed to put a first milestone on the winding road that leads to a new recycling society. We propose that this should go on and on and through this campaign to achieve public environmental awareness and education for the children in I – XII grades, which are perhaps the most influential persons in determining eco-responsible behavior among parents, grandparents or close relatives”, says  Andrei Orban, the President of Environ Association.

2011-2012 Edition of the campaign “Baterel and the Non-E World” had practical results by involving over 200 schools and high schools in 16 counties and Bucharest and by collecting about 10 tons of waste equipment and batteries. A new edition of the campaign will be launched by Environ in September 2012, aiming to engage all public and private schools in building a national collection and recycling of electrical and electronic waste equipment.

Romprest, the main partner of the Environ Association, held together various awareness campaigns and information on selective waste collection, the results thereof being successful.
